29er Eurocup at Fraglia vela Riva, Lake Garda - Overall

by Elena Giolai 1 Nov 2015 20:13 GMT 29 October - 1 November 2015

29er Eurocup win for Beaumont & Darling of Great Britain

New projects for 2016

The 29er Eurocup ended at Riva del Garda in style with winds from the north reaching 20-25 knots closing the season and event with three exciting races which brought out the best of the technically prepared crews.

Slovenians Janezic-Podlogar weren't able to make it to first place despite being only one point behind Beaumont-Darling of Great Britain, who after the second discard after the 12th race, managed to stay on top of the standings in this leg of the 29er Eurocup which will be remembered for its wonderful days full of warm sunshine and wind.

If the first two positions were already "done and dusted", then the big surprise was for third place where the Finnish crew of Kotiranta-Kaskinen showed great form by steadily improving to clinch third place. The following crews obtained excellent results in today's strong winds; GBR 14 with Grummett-Budden who had an 5-3-1(fifth overall), Germany's 2171 Farien-Kloesel who were in a class of their own in winds of 20 knots. They took a double followed by a second in the final race.

Among the women, Spaniards Muntè Carrasco-Muntè came first followed by Van Aanholt-Usman of The Netherlands just one point behind.

The young Italian team showed good form, but there's still a lot of work to do to come up to the standard of the Scandinavians. The strong winds recently didn't help as they dropped further down the table. They, however showed great determination in the the final.

Once again Lake Garda, Trentino has impressed everyone with its climate and excellent wind conditions as well as the exceptional organisation of the staff of Fraglia Vela Riva, who after eight months of events can confidently say that they have worked with professionalism and flexibility according to the needs of the sailors who every year come from further and further abroad (counting 60 nations per season). At Fraglia we are already working on the 2016 calendar which will see a season with new international events of the highest level, but always focusing on new trends in which speed and performance make the difference. A change of direction that is important if Lake Garda, Trentino wants to remain a landmark of international sailing at the highest level.
